Deserving win
It is really a people’s verdict that badminton ace Saina Nehwal has been rightly voted the DNA Sportsperson of the year (‘Saina beats Sehwag to No 1’, DNA, December 30). Although the achievements of her fellow competitors in the race cannot be neglected, the Saina’s consistent performance has helped her win the honour. Now she should continue her hard work and win some more titles for India.

Artistic freedom
After the MF Husain row, it is now Taslima Nasreen’s comments on the burkha (‘Taslima Nasreen effect: Mob goes after newspaper offices’, DNA, March 3). The provocative comments of these artists question the idea of freedom of speech. Earlier, a statement was made on Bal Thackeray by Nikhil Wagle on a Marathi news channel. Immediately after that Nikhil Wagle was attacked and offices of the Marathi news channel were vandalised by the Shiv Sena. Such incidents question the edge at which freedom of speech is explored by some personalities in India. However this violent way of protest is condemnable and doesn’t go well with the ethos of Indian democracy.

These are days of the Lokpal. What a common man like me understands by this is that the bill is, by someway, going to reduce the corruption. Hope that only happens! Well, this evening I set out to the Nirmal Lifestyles Mall in Mulund, Mumbai. I was passing by the street where this road traffic police had been talking with a car driver (or owner, may be). This young driver, upon the police's asking him his license, went behind the police and handed over a Rs. 100 note to him. The police took it readily and without uttering a word, let the boy go. This, what I saw, is a shocking experience for me for I'd only heard about these things in the past but got to see it for the first time. All I could do within these 5 seconds of act between the boy and the police is to stare them with some kind of weird look that had an expression of both shock and anger. Pandharpur- A Divine Experience

With reverence, I walked towards Pandharpur's shrine, Filled with excitement and an inner peace divine. As I approached the temple, I felt my heart race, With a thrill of emotion and a smile on my face. The sight of Lord Vitthal was simply breathtaking, His aura so bright, it illuminated my being. In awe, I stood there, my heart overflowing, As I felt goosebumps rise, a powerful knowing.   The air was filled with love and devotion so strong, A gift from the Lord, that lasted all day long. I felt a connection to something so pure and divine, A moment so sacred, it would forever be mine.   In the presence of Lord Vitthal, I found peace, A calm that washed over me, a fulfilling release.
